Apple Teams Up With SpaceX for Starlink on iPhones

Apple has secretly teamed up with SpaceX and T-Mobile US to add support for the Starlink network to the latest iPhone software.

Bloomberg reports based on insiders that the companies have been testing iPhones with Elon Musk’s space company’s satellite service.

The latest iPhone software update, released Monday, now supports this technology. According to Bloomberg, the move is surprising because T-Mobile had previously only mentioned Starlink as an option for Samsung phones.

Apple already offers a service via Globalstar that allows users to send text messages and reach emergency services outside the range of mobile networks.

An early version of the Starlink service has been activated on several iPhones as part of a beta test. Early adopters in the United States received a text message from T-Mobile saying they were “in the T-Mobile Starlink beta. “You can now stay connected with satellite text messaging from virtually anywhere.

To experience this expanded coverage, update your phone to iOS 18.3,” the users were told. They will have a new toggle in their iPhone’s cellular data settings to manage the satellite feature.
