Administrators who have finally put their computer fleet on Windows 10 can migrate to Windows 11 within six months. Microsoft itself says that most devices from the past 18-24 months will be compatible and shares a more technical explanation about the upgrade path.

You can check this via the PC Health Checker on devices on Windows 10 Home, Pro and Pro for Workstations. For devices on Windows 10 Enterprise and Education, this is done through the IT administrators. Currently, those tools are not there yet, but they are being worked on.

Microsoft emphasizes the great similarities. Windows 11 will also receive monthly updates for bugs and security patches, and there will be a major update of the operating system every year, in the second half of the calendar year. In terms of app compatibility, 99.7 percent of applications on Windows 10 should be compatible with Windows 11. The license conditions also remain the same.

Companies that prefer to stay on Windows 10 for the next few years can. The system will receive security updates until 2025, there will be a major substantive update this fall, and there will also continue to be updates that support Microsoft 365 extra.

During MS Build, CEO Satya Nadella explicitly stated that the Microsoft Store should be the most flexible and financially friendly application store. That is now becoming more concrete, and the Microsoft Store is being renewed.
