South Korean telecom providers have rolled out a 5G network on Wednesday. This makes the country the first to have a commercial 5G network.

The 5G network is offered by SK Telecom, among others, the largest operator active in the country. Customers can use a particular Samsung smartphone to connect to the new mobile internet.

5G is the successor to 4G internet, and telecom companies have been working for years on the technology required for the new, faster network.

The new network can only be used in certain parts of the capital Seoul. Outside of that, customers are connected with 4G.

It was recently thought that the United States was going to win the race for the first commercial 5G network. However, 5G was only offered an hour later than in South Korea, in Chicago and Minneapolis.
