Samsung Plans 1.4nm Chips by 2027

The Korean tech giant wants to have mass production for 2nm chips by 2025. 1.4nm chips should follow in 2027.

The company says so in announcing its ‘roadmap’ for processors. Samsung plans, among other things, to deliver large quantities of chips by 2025 using the 2nm process, a timeline that more or less corresponds to that of TSMC, the largest chip manufacturer in the world.

Two years later, the production of 1.4-nanometer transistors should be up and running. This is a process that currently no manufacturer has fully under control. Samsung is, therefore, quite ambitious with this. The company further plans to triple the production capacity of its more advanced nodes by 2027.

Samsung and TSMC both produce transistors for other companies (in addition to chips for Samsung’s own devices). The competition and innovation battle in this market is also very high now that several tech companies are reaching the limits of current production processes to make chips even smaller.
