This year, there will be no ads in WhatsApp. Next year, that will change.
Speaking to Politico, the Irish Data Protection Authority informed WhatsApp that it will not begin serving ads to European users until 2026.
This was communicated to the Data Protection Commission by parent company Meta.
Meta announced this week that it will start showing ads to users over the next few months. They will currently not appear in your private conversations, but they will be visible in status updates and channels.
According to the company, these are viewed by 1.5 billion people every day. WhatsApp currently has around 2 billion monthly users.
