An airstrike in northern Yemen killed a senior member of the terrorist organization Al Qaeda on Sunday. Various Yemeni sources announced this on Wednesday.

Saudi Hamad bin Hammoud al-Tamimi was one of the main leaders of the jihadist terrorist group Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQPA). He was killed in an attack on his home in Ma’rib province. His bodyguard was also killed. The airstrike was “probably American”, the Yemeni security services said.

The US considers AQPA the most dangerous branch of the jihadist network. They have been carrying out drone strikes against the terrorist group in Yemen for years, but Washington never officially confirms the attacks.

AQPA, like its rival Islamic State, has been able to bolster its presence in Yemen by taking advantage of the chaos created by the civil war. The terror group regularly carries out attacks, targeting both the Houthi rebels and government troops. AQPA has also claimed attacks in Europe and the US.
