Russia is Building its Own Supercomputer
Russia has proposed a new self-developed supercomputer. The system was built by RSK Group, an HPC system integrator, on behalf of the Russian government.
The supercomputer is called RSK Tornado. Maker RSK Group reports that the platform should accelerate the replacement of HPC (High-Performance Computing) systems, data centres and storage systems in Russia.
The company seems to be referring to Western sanctions. Several major chip companies, including Intel, AMD and TSMC, no longer supply products to Russia in response to the war in Ukraine. This also applies to several other large tech companies.
The RSK Tornado supports up to 104 servers in a rack. In addition, support is provided for x86 processors from foreign manufacturers and Russian-made Elbrus processors. These chips were introduced in 2015.
