The Japanese electronics group Panasonic will significantly increase its battery production with a new factory in the US state of Kansas.

With this, the company hopes to meet the growing demand from Tesla and other manufacturers of electric cars.

Panasonic announced that the new factory will cost about $4 billion and create about 4,000 jobs.

“With the proliferation of electric vehicles on the market, it is critical to expand battery production in the United States to meet demand,” said Kazuo Tadanobu, president of Panasonic Energy, in a statement.

A new location in Kansas has the advantage for Panasonic that it is relatively close to the new factory that Tesla recently opened in Austin (Texas).

The electronics giant sees batteries as one of the most important pillars for future growth.
