Hong Kong Fears for Third Coronavirus Wave

Hong Kong is taking action now that a third coronavirus wave is imminent.

City-state leader Carrie Lam announced on Sunday that 100 new cases had been added in the past 24 hours and stated that the spread of the virus is not under control.

“I think the condition is really critical and there are no signs that the situation is under control,” said Lam.

From Monday, civil servants with non-vital functions or who are not in emergency services must work from home. Amusement parks and gyms, among others, will remain closed for at least another week.

Despite Lam’s message, Hong Kong, with nearly 7.5 million residents, appears to be relatively mildly affected by the virus.

The city-state has detected nearly 1,800 infections. Twelve deaths from the virus have been recorded.
