Greece Plans More Measures Against High Energy Prices

Greece wants to do more to help consumers cope with rising energy prices. The southern European country notices that it gets more income from tourism.

This also creates more budget space to help residents.

Tourism is Greece’s main source of income. According to a government spokesperson, revenues from the sector will exceed 18.2 billion euros this year. That is even more than in the record year 2019, the last year before the corona pandemic.

Therefore, Greece wants to use the extra money that flows into the state treasury for household tax relief.

“Additional fiscal space has been created thanks to good budget execution and strong growth, despite the energy crisis,” said the government spokesman. “Of course, the impressive performance of tourism has helped considerably.”
