Google is introducing a new artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The model has been given the name Gemini. Google itself calls the launch “a major milestone in the development of AI and the beginning of a new era for us”.
Gemini is available from Wednesday. It is included in Google’s latest Pixel smartphones. For example, people who make sound recordings with the Recorder app on their phone can instruct the artificial intelligence to write a summary of the spoken text.
In chat programs, the technology can suggest answers. This starts with WhatsApp, but other apps should also be added later.
Gemini will also be built into Google’s Bard chatbot. The AI initially only masters English but intends to use it later in other languages. Artificial intelligence has also been added to the Chrome browser and Google’s search engine.
