France on Tuesday repatriated 35 minors and 16 mothers who had been held in jihadist detention camps in Syria since the fall of the Islamic State terror group.
This was announced by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry said in a statement that the mothers were handed over to the judicial authorities and the children to the child protection services.
Earlier, since 2016, 126 other children whose parents had moved to areas conquered by IS have also been repatriated.
Before this latest repatriation, about 200 children of French jihadists and 80 mothers were still in the Syrian camps controlled by the Kurds, where living conditions are “deplorable” according to the UN.
