Donald Trump: No Trade Deal with Japan Till Elections

The United States will not yet conclude a trade deal with Japan. US President Donald Trump has said he wants to reach an agreement with the Japanese only after the elections in Japan this summer.

Trump is currently visiting Japan for four days and has formal consultations with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on trade developments on Monday.

According to Trump, good progress is already being made in the trade talks between the two economic superpowers.

He is accompanied during the visit by, among others, trade envoy Robert Lighthizer.

The US threatens with import duties on Japanese cars and wants more access to the US agricultural market. Japan recently abolished long-term restrictions on the import of American beef.
