China Denounces Unjustified Attacks on TikTok by Americans
The United States must stop “unjustified attacks” on the video app TikTok, says the Chinese government.
According to the US government, the popular app is owned by the Chinese tech company ByteDance and poses a threat to national security. But Washington has “so far provided no evidence” for that claim, a spokesman for China’s foreign ministry said.
“The US must stop spreading misinformation about data security, end its baseless attacks,” the ministry continued at a press conference.
Beijing reacted to the news that the US government is demanding that ByteDance sell its stake in TikTok, as The Wall Street Journal reported based on insiders.
If this does not happen, a ban on the app in the US is imminent. TikTok confirmed that the US government has pushed for the sale of TikTok.
