Tesla wants to shut down its car factory in Shanghai for at least a day. That reports financial news agency Bloomberg based on insiders.
The Chinese government intensifies corona restrictions in the port city after a wave of infections.
East of the Huangpu River, the Pudong district was closed for five days on Monday morning. Everyone in the area is being tested for the coronavirus. The Tesla factory is also located there.
The large factory in Shanghai is critical to the American company as it produces huge quantities of electric cars. For example, 56,515 vehicles were built in February.
During the lockdown, public transport will be stopped, and there will be no ferries and no taxis. Companies have to allow their staff to work from home again or, for example, to house them in a closed factory complex.
It is not yet clear what this will mean for the Tesla factory.
