Nintendo Foresees Further Declining Sales of Switch Game Computers
Games company Nintendo expects to sell considerably fewer Switch game computers this year than in the previous year.
The company behind Mario and Pokémon expects to be able to sell 15 million of those devices in the financial year that started in April. In the past financial year, there were almost 18 million.
The Switch has been on the market for six years now. Unfortunately, during the corona pandemic, Nintendo could not produce the game consoles fast enough to meet all the demand. But now that people can spend more time outside the home, the demand for gaming computers has also decreased.
Nevertheless, games are still sold a lot, according to the successful releases of new games from Splatoon and Pokémon at the end of 2022. The Switch consoles that have already been sold are used, but the market for new game computers is starting to become saturated.
Royalty income increased. Nintendo can also expect a significant increase next year due to the very successful Super Mario film currently playing in cinemas. On the other hand, games on mobile phones earned Nintendo less than in the previous financial year.
Partly because of this, turnover fell by 5.5 percent in the past year to 1.6 trillion yen, the equivalent of 10.8 billion euros. That left a profit of more than 4 billion euros. However, that was a decrease of more than 10 percent.
