The website of the German newspaper Die Welt has limited access to Russian citizens. Russian prosecutors had asked for the news site to be blocked but gave no reason.
Moscow has long accused the West of spreading disinformation about the war in Ukraine.
Die Welt is not the only news medium that is no longer free for the Russians to visit. Since the start of the “special military operation”, as Russian media has to officially call the war, the websites of the BBC, Voice of America and Deutsche Welle have been partially or completely blocked.
Conversely, the European Union decided to block the Russian state media RT and Sputnik, because those channels spread fake news.
