After US President Donald Trump’s warning, Ukraine said it is still working on an economic deal with the United States.
“The process is continuing,” said Foreign Minister Andry Sybiha. We will work with our American colleagues to reach an acceptable text for both parties.”
Trump is pushing for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, but he also wants his deal with Ukraine on extracting raw materials. Last weekend, he warned that there would be consequences if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky backed out.
“I see he is trying to get out of the rare earth metals deal. And if he does that, he will have problems. Big, big problems.”
Bloomberg news agency reported last week that Ukraine wants changes to a draft proposal for the deal. The country fears, among other things, that it will have to repay all US military and economic aid received.
