Turkish President Erdogan visits Kastamonu province, which heavy rains and floods have hit. At least 27 people have been killed in what they call an unprecedented disaster, authorities say.

Heavy rains this week caused sudden flooding and landslides in the valleys of the mountainous region on the Black Sea.

About 900 people have been rescued from their precarious positions, and thousands of residents are given temporary shelter in student rooms because their houses have been destroyed. Most of the victims were in and around the town of Kastamonu.

At least 170 villages are currently without power due to the storm. Many roads and bridges have been destroyed or damaged so badly that they can no longer be used.

The area is more often affected by flooding in the summer after heavy rainfall. Last year, five people were killed by storms.
