Turkish authorities have arrested a man suspected of murdering Haitian President Jovenel Moise. State news agency Anadolu reported this on Monday evening.

Samir Handal, one of the suspects wanted in connection with the July murder of Moise, was detained on arrival at Istanbul airport. Anadolu said he was flying from the US to Jordan and was in transit in the Turkish city. Handal was wanted based on an Interpol APO.

The suspect was sent to prison in Istanbul after authorities issued a 40-day pre-trial detention order. On his Twitter account, Haitian Foreign Minister Claude Joseph said that he had spoken to his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu about the arrest without giving any further details.

Moise was killed on July 7 in an attack on his home that allegedly involved at least 28 people. Little is known about the motives of the attackers and who their client was.
