The number of new corona cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours in Germany is rising sharply.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German counterpart of the RIVM, reported 13,435 new infections on Wednesday morning, more than duple the number reported on Monday.
On Tuesday, the RKI already warned that exponential growth in the number of corona infections has again occurred in Germany. The number increased by about 20 percent in the previous week compared to the week before.
RKI epidemiologist Dirk Brockmann speaks of a third wave. The recently implemented eases accelerate this, says Brockmann.
With the new figures from Wednesday, the coronavirus in Germany has been diagnosed in a total of 2,594,764 people. At least 249 people died in the Federal Republic in the past 24 hours from Covid-19.
This brings the total official number of corona deaths in Germany to 73,905.
