The number of corona infections diagnosed in Europe has passed 3 million. AFP news agency reports this based on its own count.

More than 15 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with the virus.

Russia has reported by far the highest number of infections (over 795,000) in Europe and nearly 13,000 deaths.

This is followed by the United Kingdom (296,000 infections, 45,000 deaths), Spain (267,000 infections and 28,000 deaths) and Italy (245,000 infections and 25,000 deaths).

As a continent, Europe has reported the highest death toll in the world. More than 206,000 patients have died in European countries. That’s nearly a third of the global death toll of almost 627,000.

The figures do not provide a complete picture. This is because many people with the virus are not tested, for example, because they only have mild symptoms and do not notice that they are sick.

In addition, not all countries calculate the death toll in the same way.
