Spam Filters Outlook Go Wrong

Microsoft’s mail service users, including Outlook, Hotmail and Live addresses, received a striking amount of spam on Monday. The problem should have been resolved by now.

On Twitter, Reddit and various forums, users of Outlook complain that their mailboxes let through a remarkable amount of spam messages. Normally, these are largely filtered out automatically.

These are Microsoft mailboxes, mail addresses with suffixes such as @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, and @live.com. Those who use the e-mail program or the Outlook mobile app with a different e-mail address are not covered.

The cause of the problem is unknown. However, Microsoft says on its status page that some users saw more spam on Monday. The company has identified and addressed the source of the problem. In the meantime, unwanted e-mails would be filtered better again.
