Electronics group Sony did profitable business in the last three months of last year.

In the third quarter of its broken fiscal year, the Japanese company benefited from increased demand for computer games from people who have fewer other forms of entertainment due to corona measures.

Sony also introduced its latest game console, the PlayStation 5, during the measurement period. However, it did not yet have a large share in the figures because the company could produce far less than it could have sold.

In addition to the game branch, Sony’s music division also did a profitable business. The film division underperformed now that cinemas are still closed in much of the world.

Despite the strong demand for new telephones, the branch that makes up image sensors for mobile telephones and cameras, among other things, also did less well than a year earlier.

Sony sales in the quarter amounted to 2.3 trillion yen, and net profit was 373.7 billion yen. Sony also turned more positive over its fiscal year. The company increased its operating profit forecast by a third.
