At least 27 passengers were injured on an Aeroflot flight between Moscow and Bangkok when the plane entered a zone of severe turbulence, the Russian national airline said on Monday (May 1st).

The incident occurred shortly before landing in the night from Sunday to Monday, according to the company.

An official of the Russian Embassy in Thailand, Denis Antonyuk, said 24 Russians and three Thais were wounded. “Fifteen Russians and two Thais are still in the hospital,” he said.

Thailand is a popular destination for Russian tourists, serviced every day by dozens of flights from several cities in Russia.

More than one million Russians visited Thailand in 2016, traveling mainly to the southern seaside resorts.
