NATO Confirms Attack on Alliance Websites
NATO was the target of an attack by hackers on Sunday. A spokeswoman confirmed in the evening that cyber experts from the Defense Alliance were actively working on the incident, which involved several websites.
It previously sounded on social networks such as Twitter that pro-Russian activists had attacked the website of the NATO Headquarters for Special Operations (NSHQ), among other things. The site was temporarily unavailable.
The Russian hacker group Killnet was mentioned as a possible person involved in the attack. The latter seems to specialize in attacks to take down sites (via DDoS attacks, for example). The pro-Russian group previously disrupted traffic in Lithuania and Romania after those countries imposed sanctions on Russia. The group also tried to disrupt the Eurovision Song Contest.
NATO made no further announcements about the incident on Sunday evening. However, the spokeswoman said the alliance regularly encounters cyber incidents and takes cyber security very seriously.
