HPE Opens Supercomputer Factory in Czech Republic

A new factory will open this summer in Kutna Hora, Czech Republic. HPE will build supercomputers and AI systems next to its existing facility.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise already had three similar locations, but it also opens such a factory in Europe for the first time. Devices for high-performance computing (HPC) and AI systems will be developed on the site. Specifically, this concerns the HPE Apollo systems, which can be used for HPC and AI applications or modelling and training AI.

In addition, the HPE Cray EX Supercomputers will be built in the Czech Republic, and supercomputers will be tailored to specific customers. For this reason, the factory will have reinforced floors because such a Cray EX weighs 3,628 kilos, which includes a water circuit between supercomputers that runs to the roof of the building for cooling.

That HPE chooses Kutna Hora is not so surprising. The company has had a server factory there for years, and the new site will be adjacent to the current factory and will also use the same logistics chain. Like the existing factory, the new one will be built and run by Foxconn.
