The death toll in the Gaza Strip due to the war between Hamas and Israel has exceeded 47,000. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported this on Monday.
The official death toll now stands at 47,035.
According to the ministry, sixty people have died in the past 24 hours. The bodies of 62 previous fatalities have also been recovered.
It is unclear whether the Palestinian Ministry of Health is indicating that the sixty new deaths occurred after the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel came into effect or whether they have only just been included.
The ceasefire came into effect on Sunday at 09:15 UK time. On Monday, the UN Relief Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) reported that the ceasefire had “a good first day”.
Local authorities believe the actual death toll is higher, with at least 10,000 bodies believed to be under the rubble.
