Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has reached a deal with OpenAI for the deployment of artificial intelligence infrastructure.
According to the chip developer, the deal with the maker of the popular chatbot ChatGPT could generate tens of billions of dollars in new revenue.
AMD will supply hundreds of thousands of AI chips to OpenAI for data centres in the coming years. OpenAI will also have the option to buy up to approximately 10 percent of the chipmaker’s shares.
This is the latest major data centre deal for OpenAI. In September, Nvidia announced it would invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI and supply the company with chips for data centres.
For AMD, it means its technology stays competitive while OpenAI and other large data centre owners invest billions in expanding AI capacity.
