O’Connor passed away “peacefully” in hospital on Saturday. He had been taken there a week ago after falling at his home in Buckinghamshire.
According to his management, O’Connor’s recovery was initially successful, and he expected to be able to go home quickly. On Saturday, his condition suddenly deteriorated rapidly, and he died in his sleep.
In 1958 O’Connor was first seen on TV in the hit show Sunday Night at the London Palladium. Later he also started singing and had a big hit with I Pretend.
He made 36 albums and reached the top 10 in the UK charts with four singles, according to the Sky News channel.
From his first TV appearance, he has almost always had his own prime time show. That’s why Des O’Connor has been recognized as one of the UK’s most successful TV entertainers.
