Belarusian Activists Sentenced to Long Prison Terms

Belarusian activist Maria Kolesnikova has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

 

Kolesnikova was one of the leaders of mass protests against President Alexander Lukashenko last year. As a result, opposition member Maxim Znak has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

Znak and Kolesnikova were charged with extremism and illegally attempting to seize power. Both critics have said they did nothing wrong.
