Two UN Experts Remain Permanently at Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant

Two experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will remain at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant permanently, Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency reported.

The UN agency has had access to the nuclear complex in southeastern Ukraine since Thursday.

IAEA chief Rafael Grossi had already said he was committed to a permanent presence. He led his team to the complex in Enerhodar on Thursday despite new attacks in the area. He left that same day with a number of colleagues.

Two teams were left behind. According to the Russian state news agency TASS, eight IAEA experts went to work at the plant on Friday.

Russia captured the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, at the start of the war in Ukraine. As a result, the international community has expressed considerable concern about security, particularly in the past month.

In addition, Russia and Ukraine have recently accused each other of shelling the nuclear complex several times.
