Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Joe Biden on winning the US election.
The results of the elections were already known, but incumbent President Donald Trump still contested it, so several foreign leaders did not want to congratulate Biden.
On Monday, the former vice president was officially elected by the electors. Democrat Biden has 306 electors behind him, Trump 232. Now was the time for Putin to congratulate Biden.
Putin has told Biden that he is open to contact and cooperation, the Kremlin said in a statement.
The Russian president told Biden that the US and Russia have a responsibility to ensure the security and stability of the world.
