The tech giant is pulling the plug on Yammer, the social network for enterprises that never really got off the ground.
Microsoft bought Yammer in 2012 for $1.2 billion to integrate the social network into the Microsoft Office suite. The intention was to make it a social component for Word, Excel and Powerpoint, a bit like you can also chat while working on texts in Google Docs.
But Yammer, unfortunately, never really became popular, and many people don’t even know it at all. As a result, the platform is now closed.
The software itself is given a second life in Microsoft Viva Engage, another attempt by the company to integrate its online collaboration tools and business suites into a single platform. The adjustment and rebranding should be completed by the end of this year.
