Huawei’s first factory outside of China will be operational in 2023. The location chosen was the French city of Brumath in Alsace.
Catherine Chen, vice president of the Chinese technology company, has officially confirmed this.
With the new factory, Huawei mainly focuses on 5G technology to conquer the European market. The plant would create 300 direct jobs and 500 long-term, according to the company. 1 billion euros worth of equipment will be produced per year.
A research and development centre (R&D) in Paris was also announced earlier. The company already employs about a thousand people all over France.
Huawei has been accused of espionage for a while. It would use its technology to pass information to the Chinese government.
Countries such as the United States, Sweden and Great Britain have banned the use of Huawei technology for their telecom networks. Espionage has never been publicly demonstrated.
