Netflix Musical Diana is Big Winner at the Razzie Awards
The Netflix film Diana the Musical has won the most Razzie Awards, the awards for worst film performance. The registration of the Broadway musical has won five awards.
The organization behind the awards announced the ‘winners’ on Saturday, traditionally the day before the Oscars ceremony.
The musical about the British Princess Diana was crowned worst film of the year. Leading actress Jeanna de Waal received the golden raspberry for worst actress, Judy Kaye, won that for worst supporting actress and the director, and the script also received prizes. The film Space Jam: A New Legacy was the biggest ‘winner’ after Diana the Musical with three awards.
The musical was taken down by critics after its release last year. The British newspaper The Guardian called it a “royal debacle that makes you hyperventilate”, and the American magazine Vanity Fair wrote, among other things, that it was a product born “of cold, money-hungry cynicism”.
Prior to the Broadway premiere, Netflix streamed a registration of the musical from an empty theatre – due to the corona measures in force at the time. The show has been performed a total of 33 times on Broadway.
