5 Common Myths about Writing

Writing is not a child’s play and requires a whole lot of discipline, commitment, and creativity at the same time. However, like every other profession, this field has been clouded by its own set of myths. Let’s take a look at some of the common myths about writing that have been hovering over the writers for years now and the truth behind them.

Myth #1 Anyone can do it
This is probably the most common misconception about the writers. We are surrounded by people who think that writing is something which can come easily to just about anyone if they put their mind to it. This is absolutely not true. Not everyone who can speak a language is good enough to write it too.

Writing is a form of art which requires a lot of practice and learning before one is ready to take a deep plunge into the real world of writing and preparation which takes place in the head of the writer before he chooses to bring it out on a paper.

Myth #2 It is done in solitude
Well, this is not entirely true especially in today’s world where the writer sits in front of a computer to write rather than with a paper and a pen in a quiet corner of the room. The writing and its demands are way different now than they were some years ago. Sitting in front of the computer, the writer is not alone anymore. In fact, he is connected to a whole new world on an entirely different level: connecting and sharing in every way.

Myth #3 Only good writers can write
As true as it might sound, it is not. Good writing is not something which comes to us at our births. It is a skill which is mastered and polished through ages. If one is not willing to go through all the pains of learning and developing the art, he can never become a good writer. So, on the contrary, only the people who write regularly are good writers.

Myth #4  All writing is same
This is entirely not true and this myth probably arose due to a lack of awareness and knowledge about the different fields and aspects of writing services that we have today. Each kind of writing requires its own set of skills and is different from the others.

Myth #5 If it is correct, it is good
Grammar and structure may constitute to be an important part of the writing services that are offered but good writing is way more than the dry technical skills. It is about grasping the reader and bringing magic on the paper and this cannot be done through grammar only.

A good writer knows of all these myths and has faced and conquered them one too many times in his whole career. Do not let these misconceptions keep you from your dream of becoming a writer.
